Yap Yeen Yee, also known as YY, is a self-taught artist and urban sketcher. She is also an Interior Design Director at Luna Solutions Sdn Bhd. Her artworks are lively and capture everyday moments. As a member of Sketchewalk Kuala Lumpur and Urban Sketchers Penang, she has an ongoing desire to immerse herself in sketching urban scenes that surround us every day.
Workshop Description: In this captivating workshop, participants will delve into the world of expressive charcoal art using handmade charcoal cream. The workshop aims to inspire creativity and unlock new artistic possibilities by harnessing the power of charcoal cream as a versatile medium. Participants will learn techniques to create visually striking drawings without relying on traditional outlines. By immersing themselves in the process of making charcoal cream and applying it directly onto the paper, attendees will embark on a journey of self-expression and discover their unique artistic voice.
Sketch paper (normal) : Used for practicing line thickness control and line variations.
100% cotton cold press watercolor paper : Used for formal drawings with charcoal cream.
Black watercolor, gouache, or poster color : This color will be used to enhance the drawing and add a sense of drama, elevating the overall visual impact of the artwork.
Flat water brushes/water brushes : Used for applying water and manipulating the charcoal cream.
Small liner brush : Used for fine details and precise lines.
Water container or bottle : Required for adding water to the charcoal cream mixture and for washing the brushes.
